Mexican Restaurant

In this third-year school project, students were tasked
with designing a restaurant on Bağdat Street in Istanbul,
tailored to a cuisine of their choice. The project
required the inclusion of both outdoor and indoor dining
areas, a kitchen, storage, and back-of-house facilities.
Key elements also included accessible vertical transitions
like elevators or ramps, and a bar area designed to
complement the chosen cuisine and overall design concept.
The design needed to ensure operational efficiency while
providing a seamless and inclusive dining experience.                        [ Interior Architecture ]                       [ School Project ]

The design concept of this project is deeply rooted in extensive research into Mexican culture, architecture, and street food experiences. Central to the design is an open kitchen located in the main dining area, allowing guests to observe the culinary process and engage directly with the food preparation. While the final steps of cooking occur in this visible show-kitchen, initial food preparations are handled in a closed kitchen situated one story below.

This two-story building also incorporates a bar and cigar shop, alongside a smoking area at the back of the restaurant. Here, the ambiance shifts to a darker tone, drawing inspiration from the diverse Mexican landscape and flora. In contrast, the front half of the restaurant features materials and colors that evoke the desert landscapes of Mexico, providing a vibrant and culturally rich dining experience.
